I have always loved my french toast. I have plenty of memories attached to this dish. And that’s what will always make it special to me. Besides that, I love french toast because it is easy to make and you can make it in a million different ways.
I stumbled upon Girl and Apron while I was making my photo own submissions to Food Gawker and I loved her blog the instant I checked it out. Her recipes are simple and we happen to even use the same theme LOL. I guess great minds really do thing alike! She made these french toast with some almonds and oranges. I thought I could recreate the same with what I had at hand. I decided to make tangerine and sesame seed french toast. This was G.O.O.D.
Ingredients:
1 tangerine, juice squeezed
1 teaspoon of tangerine rind, grated
3/4 cup of milk
1/2 a teaspoon of ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon of sugar
1/2 a teaspoon of salt
1 large egg
1 heaped tablespoon of sesame seeds
2 large slices of bread
Method
Grate the rind of the tangerine. Once you get the amount desired, cut in half and juice it.
In a bowl, mix together the egg milk and all the other ingredients. Pour in the tangerine juice and add the zest. Whisk everything together until evenly distributed.
Add your slices of bread and flip so that both sides are coated. Allow them to stay in the mixture until it is all absorbed.
Grease a non stick pan and on medium low heat, allow the toast to gently and evenly brown on both sides. Do not turn the heat too high as this will burn the outside while the inside remains totally uncooked.
Flip the toast after 3 minutes on each side then serve once they are done.
These smelt so good as I was cooking. They tasted even better when they were off the heat. The taste of the tangerine really came through as you chew this down. The contrast between the soft fluffy center and the sesame seeds is an experience and a half! Eating is not just about getting food into your body, but also a celebration of it’s goodness. These tangerine and sesame seed french toast highlight exactly that!
I seem to have been on a golden streak with french toast since all recipes I try turn out fantastic on first try. If you want something phenomenal to kick start your day, this tangerine and sesame seed french toast is it!
Perfect sweetness. Perfect contrast of textures. Perfect Breakfast. Prepared to be blown away by my tangerine and sesame seed french toast.
Happy Today!

Wait till you try it! You will go absolutely bonkers!! Hope you try out all other frenchies recipes I have up on my blog :))
This looks really good. I’m actually going to try it for supper tonight. I don’t have sesame seeds at hand so I’ll have to make do without them.
It was great and I know you will enjoy it too! You can forego the sesame seeds if you do not have any at hand. Lemme know how it goes :))
So I tried this yesterday and it worked out pretty well. I had to swap the cinnamon for ginger because that’s another ingredient I was missing but the smell was still amazing. It’s been a long time since I made french toast and this is a great recipe not just for breakfast but for those evenings when you want to eat something light yet substantive. Thanks Kaluhi!
Thank you so much for your feed back! I am even more grateful that you gave this a try! Tangerine and ginger can go well together. And that was a good substitute too considering you were having this for dinner. I love your own twist to my recipe 🙂
And you’re most welcome!
Where does one get zest
When you grate the skin of the tangerine, the resultant material is the zest. same applies to lemon and orange. Zest is just grated rind of citrus fruit.
Lovely recipes.
My friends think I am a trained Chef.
Thank you Kaluhiskitchen.
That is always the best kind of feedback ! Glad this recipe was enjoyed by your pals :))
